Express Entry draw #217: 1,047 PNP candidates invited

1,047 PNP candidates were invited to apply for permanent residence in the fifth Express Entry draw of the year.

The March 2nd draw targeted Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 761 points. It is 51 points higher than the previous draw. The score cut-off is relatively high because all PNP candidates in the Express Entry pool automatically get 600 points added to their score.

In this round, the tie-break rule applied to candidates who submitted their profiles before January 05, 2022, at 14:22:03 UTC. Invited candidates now have 60 days to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

It is important to mention that this is the fourth time in a row that a PNP draw has broken a record for most invitations:

Canada to Welcome 431,645 Permanent Residents in 2022

Canada is targeting high levels of newcomers to support its population, labour force, and economic growth. In 2022, Canada will welcome 431,645 new immigrants in the following categories:

  • Economic: 241,850
  • Family: 105,000
  • Refugees and Protected Persons: 76,545
  • Humanitarian and Other: 8,250

So far, most of the Express Entry draws have been for PNP candidates only. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has not invited CEC candidates since September 2021. Moreover, we haven’t seen an FSWP draw since December 2020.

In November 2021, IRCC explained that in order to support its target of welcoming 401,000 immigrants to Canada, it had to stop FSWP invitations. Parsai Immigration tried to contact the office of the Minister of Immigration; however, we have not had any response.
