Extended Grace Period for Restoration of Status
Canada has extended the grace period even more! Click here for more information. |
The government of Canada has added a new measure to assist foreign nationals who are in Canada. Generally, if you stay in Canada past the expiry of your status, you need to apply for a Restoration of Status. However, you only have 90 days to apply. Of course, if you go beyond 90 days, you need to leave Canada. Nonetheless, if you choose to stay in Canada, then you could face a removal order.
How this new measure affects the Restoration of Status?
According to IRCC, the coronavirus pandemic has made it difficult for many people to submit their complete Restoration of Status applications in a timely fashion. Of course, many of those people are also facing difficulty going back home due to travel restrictions. Therefore, the government allows them to submit their “Restoration of Status” application by December 31, 2020.
Who may benefit from these changes?
You may only benefit from this measure if your status expired after January 30, 2020. Of course, these changes cover international students, temporary foreign workers and visitors.
