Ontario Suspends Entrepreneur Immigration Stream (OINP-ES)

The process of immigrating to Ontario as an entrepreneur involves several comprehensive steps. Initially, meeting the fundamental eligibility criteria and developing a feasible business concept is essential. This marks the beginning of the journey. Subsequently, a visit to Ontario might be required. Obtaining a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) could be a prerequisite, depending on your nationality.

After this, entrepreneurs typically submit an Expression of Interest and then await an invitation. It’s important to note that these stages are time-consuming and involve financial investment. Often, professional services are sought to navigate these complexities efficiently.

As an experienced immigration professional, I understand the financial implications of these services, which are a crucial consideration for potential applicants. It is also essential to be aware of the current status of immigration programs. In this context, it’s pertinent to note that the OINP Entrepreneur Stream (OINP-ES) has been suspended and is currently inactive. This suspension significantly affects the immigration plans of entrepreneurs considering this pathway.

What happened to OINP-ES?

The OINP website includes a page introducing different immigration options to the province. However, there is no sign of the OINP-ES or the Entrepreneur Stream. Moreover, the following pages are either archived or not available.

So, it appears the province has removed this option completely. However, the checklist page is still running.

Are there official announcements?

The program updates page does not include any announcements regarding eliminating OINP-ES. The latest updates show they ran a round of invitations for this group on September 25, 2023—nothing past that date about OINP-ES. I contacted OINP about this matter. They replied on Jan 19, 2024, and confirmed the suspension of this program. Here is part of the email I received from them.

What could happen to OINP-ES?

At this stage, you may consider alternative options for immigration, such as other provincial entrepreneurship programs or the Start-up Visa program.
