On March 1, 2026, the Government of Canada updated immigration policies for Iranian nationals. IRCC officially extended the Iranian Special Measures until March 31, 2027. This change specifically helps work permit holders already in the country. Eligible workers can now maintain their status for up to two additional years.

Eligibility for the Iranian Special Measures Extension

The criteria for this extension are strict. To qualify for the Iranian Special Measures, you must be an Iranian national currently inside Canada. You must also hold a valid work permit. Additionally, you must have received your initial permit by February 28, 2025. This program serves those who have not yet used these specific measures. If you already extended your stay through this program, you cannot apply a second time.

Important Deadlines and Admissibility

Timing is critical for these IRCC updates. You must submit your extension request on or before March 31, 2027. All applicants must also pass standard health and security clearances. IRCC will not issue a work permit past your passport’s expiry date. Therefore, check your travel document before applying under the Iranian Special Measures. We recommend having at least two years of validity on your passport.
