The Latest IRCC Processing Times: October 2022
This year, the Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, announced major updates to IRCC’s online processing times tool. This tool is supposed to provide new weekly calculations from the previous six months’ data. Moreover, it reflects the application volume with operational challenges to help future immigrants plan their journey better.

Processing times for PR, citizenship, family sponsorships and temporary resident visas
As of October 4, processing times were the following:
1. Permanent resident (PR) cards
- Renewing or replacing a PR card: 89 days
- Waiting for first card: 63 days
2. Citizenship
- Citizenship grant: 25 months, also
- Certificate/Proof of citizenship: 17 months
- Resumption of citizenship: 23 months
- Renunciation of citizenship: 17 months
- Search of citizenship record: 16 months
- Citizenship for adopted persons – Part 1: 12 months, Part 2: Varies by complexity
3. Family Sponsorship
- Spouse or common-law partner living inside Canada: 14 months
- Spouse or common-law partner living outside Canada: 22 months
- Dependent child: depends on where the child lives
- Parents or grandparents: 37 months
- Adopted child/relative: depends on where the adopted child/relative live
4. Temporary residence application
- Visitor visa outside Canada: Varies by country
– inside Canada: 15 days online and 41 days by paper, also
– extension (visitor record): 201 days online and 190 days by paper - Parents or grandparents Super Visa: Varies by country
- Study permit outside Canada: 13 weeks
– inside Canada: 4 weeks
– extension: 61 days online and 83 days by paper - Work permit outside Canada: Varies by country
– Work permit inside Canada (initial application or extension): 167 days online and 99 days by paper - International Experience Canada: Varies by country
- Electronic Travel Authorization: 5 minutes
Processing times for applications under Economic Immigration, humanitarian, refugees and caregivers visa category
The processing times for applications under Economic Immigration, humanitarian, refugees and caregivers, were the following:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): 17 months
- Caregivers:
- Home Child Care Provider Pilot: 27 months (experience 24 months or more). Varies by application (experience less than 24 months)
- Home Support Worker Pilot: 27 months (experience 24 months or more) 27 months. Varies by application (experience less than 24 months)
- Provincial Nominee Program: 15 months (online via Express Entry)
- Non-Express Entry PNP: 23 months
- Self-employed persons (Federal): 41 months
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): 26 months
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): 47 months
- Atlantic Immigration Program: 15 months
- Quebec skilled worker: 24 months
- Quebec business class: 65 months
- Start-up visa: 32 months
- Humanitarian & Compassionate: 22 months, also
- Refugees: depends where you are applying from
- Protected persons and convention refugees (in Canada): 21 months

Also, please be aware that IRCC calculates processing time based on the time it took to process previous similar applications. The processing time begins when IRCC receives the application and ends when the immigration officer has decided on the application. Moreover, the processing time may vary on how the application was submitted on paper or online.
