U.S. land border

The U.S. land border will remain closed for Canada and Mexico

The White House announced that restrictions on non-essential travel from Canada and Mexico -land borders- will remain in place until at least October 21. This restriction on recreational travellers driving from Canada and Mexico has been extended now for a 19th month.

According to The Star, the White House revised some of its international travel restrictions. Moreover, the new rules replace the travel ban that restricted visits to the U.S. by those who had recently been in certain countries. Presently, this includes the United Kingdom, the European Union, China, India, Iran, Ireland, Brazil, and South Africa.

New policy takes effect in November

Starting in early November, foreign nationals traveling to the U.S. by air will need to show proof of vaccination. Additionally, they will also have to show a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than three days prior to departure, said White House COVID-19 co-ordinator Jeff Zient.

“We do not have any updates to the land border policies at this point” he added.

This announcement does not make clear the new vaccination rules for Canadian passengers. For example, it’s unclear whether vaccines that have never been approved in the U.S. will be eligible. Will people who received AstraZeneca have valid proof of vaccination?
