These international students can get a study permit within 20 calendar days
International students who want to come to Canada first need to receive a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Canadian designated learning institution (DLI). Once they receive an LOA, they need to submit a study permit application. According to IRCC processing times, this application is taking 90 days approx. if you are applying outside Canada.

Requirements for the Student Direct Stream
The Student Direct Stream (SDS) offers expedited study permit processing to some international students looking to study at a Canadian DLI. Of course, students need to meet some requirements. Let’s see if you apply for this stream.
To be eligible for faster processing through the Student Direct Stream, you must:
- be a legal resident living in 1 of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Vietnam.
- have an acceptance letter from a post-secondary designated learning institution
- live outside of Canada when you apply, also
- have proof you have paid your tuition for your first year of study
- have a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAN$10,000
- get a medical exam before you apply (if you need one)
- have a language test result that shows either:
- an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic or general training with a minimum score of 6 in each skill, or
- a Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) score that is equal to a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of at least 7 in each skill
Of course, depending on where you’re applying from, you may also need to submit other documents.

If you want to bring your family, you must complete and submit their applications at the same time as your own. Otherwise, IRCC won’t process their applications faster. Consequently, when you apply online, indicate that you have family members coming with you to Canada. This lets you complete their applications with yours.
